A Rish History

Leonidas, the renowned Belgian chocolatier, has a rich history marked by passion and resilience. Born in 1882 in Turkey, founder Leonidas Kestekides and his brother began by selling sweets like granita to make a living. Leonidas later tried his luck in Italy, selling wine, but faced financial setbacks due to an unfortunate accident. Undeterred, he crossed the Atlantic to the United States, becoming a skilled confectioner.

In 1910, he participated in the World Exhibition in Brussels, where his confectionery creations gained recognition. Leonidas married in 1912, settling in Ghent, Belgium, and opened his first tearoom. He continued to innovate, introducing the iconic sliding sash window for selling pralines.

Over the years, Leonidas expanded and evolved, offering high-quality chocolates at affordable prices. Today, the legacy of Leonidas lives on, celebrated as a purveyor to the royal household and cherished worldwide for its delicious creations.
